My Name is Steve Sakaguchi, I am currently serving as a Training Captain in Human Capital with Clackamas Fire District in Oregon. I am a first-generation firefighter beginning my journey in 2001 as a student in a Fire Protection Technology Program through Chemeketa Community College.
I was hired in 2003 by Clackamas Fire and have served as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, Instructor, Explorer Post Advisor and Training Officer. In the role as an Explorer Post Advisor, I mentored youth and young adults (14-18) pursuing a career in the fire service and designed training programs and road maps to help them achieve their goals.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is that I get to work alongside some of those that I’ve mentored in the past. I have a deep passion for leadership, professional development, organizational culture, recruitment and retention.
