Dustin’s early life saw him progress through school as average at best. His keen sense of adventure and want to serve a greater purpose saw him chase a career with the Fire and Rescue Service. While waiting for recruitment to open, Dustin pursued his love for adventure, pushing his limits by competing in mountain bike racing, rock climbing and obstacle racing and while regularly setting off on multi day backcountry hikes.
With recruitment restrains on the Fire service, Dustin flipped his direction and joined his State Police Service in 2008. Early in his career he developed a keen interest in a skills and tactics training which ultimately saw him being selected as part of a team which created a skills training package for responding to Active Armed Offenders (AAO).
While developing the AAO program, Dustin developed a strong sense of responsibility for the victims of these atrocities and began to advocate for the necessity skills and equipment to save lives and minimises the trauma. Dustin went on to create a service wide medical training package which is estimated to have saved for 80 lives since its implementation in 2017. As acknowledgment to the programs success, the Tactical First Aid Training Project was awarded the Winner at the inaugural World Class Policing Awards in London, England.
Dustin’s career passion is tactical medicine. To advance the topic generally, Dustin works to promote the community in this field as the Co-Chair of the Law Enforcement Working Group within the Australian Tactical Medicine Association as well as working as a sessional lecturer at University’s within the School of Medicine (paramedicine).
