Brett Sobieraski - Episode 827
Brett Sobieraski refers to himself as a gray man – an average man that travels mostly unnoticed throughout life. Despite having self-proclaimed subpar athletic abilities, he has completed Badwater 135, numerous 100-mile ultra-marathons, double Ironman, swam 32 miles across Lake Ontario and ran for 50 hours to benefit Special Olympics. He often raises money for charities during his races.
Happily retired after being a police officer for 32 years, Brett worked mostly in narcotics and was also on the SWAT Team at the Rochester Police Department. Additionally, Brett was an instructor at the police academy who taught physical fitness and narcotics training until his retirement. Brett loved shaping new officers’ minds and bodies. Brett feels he left his job with his sanity, a positive outlook, and a strong sense of humanity.
Brett is proof that personal greatness can be achieved by anyone if they are willing to make substantial sacrifices. He enjoys mentoring and supporting others in their quests. Brett learned that training his mind was more important than training his body, discovering that mental toughness is the cornerstone to his successes. His feats have been the result of incremental changes to his lifestyle, coupled with a knack for getting in over his head, like the time he built his own house.
