Episode 513 - Allison Brager II
Maj. Allison Brager is one of few Army Soldiers who are neuroscientists. Her research includes studying survival in extreme environments, under sleep deprivation and stress, and why some individuals are resilient and others vulnerable under such conditions. Here she builds a “team of teams” providing cutting-edge technologies, knowledge products, and solutions for fatigue management on the battlefield.
Her other accomplishments include writing Meathead: Unraveling the Athletic Brain, a popular science book. Brager also enjoys athletics. She is a two-time CrossFit Games and regional competitor, and won eight gold medals, one silver in track and field and set a new record in the women’s pole vault at the 10th Gay Olympics in Paris in 2018.
She regards her direct commissioning as a “second chance for selfless service” because although Brager was recruited by the United States Military Academy, she was discouraged by family from attending— she was a high school junior when 9/11 happened.
