Episode 359 - Todd LeDuc
Chief LeDuc began his career in Massachusetts receiving his EMT training in 1986 and Paramedic training at Northeastern University in 1989 while working for several EMS providers in the Merrimack Valley before relocating to South Florida to join Broward County Fire Rescue in 1990, an internally accredited all career metro department. Chief LeDuc earned a masters degree in Executive Fire Service Leadership, Fellow status in the Institute of Fire Engineers and has been designated as a Chief Fire Officer since 2001. Chief LeDuc served as a Lieutenant, Captain, District Chief, Assistant, Deputy Chief and Executive assistant chief before retiring in June of 2019 after 29 ½ years of service in the Countries 18th most populated County.
Chief LeDuc served as the department’s PIO and accreditation manager, chief of EMS , operations chief, Professional standards chief. He has long served as a peer reviewer for the Center for Public Safety Excellence for both agency accreditation and professional credentialing. He has also served as an associate consultant with ESCI, participating in numerous fire department master and strategic plans, department evaluations and consolidation feasibility studies. He has represented the IAFC as a FEMA AFG, R & D and SAFER grant peer reviewer as well as serving on the advisory board of the First Responder Center of Excellence. He was a contributor to the IAFC Health Care Providers Guide to Firefighter Physicals document and has served as an advisor to numerous FEMA grant projects working closely with fire service research colleagues.
In June of 2019, Chief LeDuc joined Life Scan Wellness Centers as their Chief Strategy Officer. Life Scan Wellness Centers is the Nations largest provider of comprehensive annual public safety physicals. Chief LeDuc as first appointed to the Board in 2006 and has subsequently been re-elected serving uninterrupted, including two terms as the Section Secretary. He is also Editor of Fire Engineering’s book, Surviving the Fire Rescue and publishes and teaches frequently around the Country. In 2013 he was awarded the IAFC Garry Briese Safety Performance Award, in 2015 the IAFC SHS Chair Recognition and in 2014 recognition by the IAFF for fire service leadership.
