Episode 333 - Pete Tanzilli
I am a former law enforcement officer with upwards of 20 years of experience. In March of 2016 I was shot in the line of duty while attempting to make an arrest, left catastrophically injured and forced to make the decision that none of us want to make. I had to return fire, striking and killing the offender to keep him from getting away and hurting anyone else. I spent two weeks in the hospital, and more than 2 years at home recovering from the injuries.
I am now unable to continue helping others as a law enforcement officer because I am permanently disabled. Living with my disabilities and mental health problems has been extremely difficult but helping others through peer support and outreach has helped me heal and recover. I have been helping other law enforcement officers, first responders and civilians who are recovering from trauma since suffering my own trauma, and I believe it is time to help even more.
